We are looking to recruit a Couple.

 

A full time Ghillie to work on the River Naver during the fishing season and outside the fishing season, to assist with general estate maintenance, stalking and shooting.

 

An experienced hands on Housekeeper to run Syre Lodge (a large 10 bedroom property) which is usually occupied by guests from mid-March to end September/early October each year. Whilst this is a full time role you will be expected to work more hours during the months Syre Lodge is occupied and less hours out of season.

 

The Ghillie’s job description:

 

  • To ghillie on one of the River Naver’s rotating beats during the fishing season (12th January to 30th September) Monday to Friday and a half day on Saturday
  • To keep and report accurate fishing catch records and to work with the River Bailiff if required
  • Stalking with guests and to undertake deer culls in line with Deer Management Group requirements. To keep and report accurate deer cull records
  • To attend woodcock shoots as required
  • To attend to all guests on the Estate and ensure their stay is made as enjoyable and as pleasurable as possible
  • During the winter months to undertake estate maintenance works as an when required including but not limited to fencing, walling, property repairs and road repairs
  • To undertake habitat management as required including but not limited to muir cutting, bracken control. And to control predators and pests  
  • To participate with the Estate’s conservation work including habitat monitoring and assessments
  • To assist with the Estate’s farming and forestry management operations as required
  • To look after all estate machinery and keep clean and tidy
  • To help keep all properties on the estate are well maintained and kept in a clean and tidy condition
  • To work closely with the Estate Owners and their Factor as required
  • To act as an good ambassador for the Estate and to ensure that good and respectful relations continue to be maintained with the local community  
  • To ensure all Estate working policies are adhered to and are implemented
  • Plus anything else that is reasonably required!
  • You will be encouraged to take your holidays outside the fishing season.

 

The Housekeeper’s job requirements:

 

  • To be responsible for the smooth day to day running of Syre Lodge
  • To undertake all housekeeping duties including but not limited to cleaning, hoovering, polishing, changing beds, looking after lodge contents including silver and some antiques and very occasionally some cooking
  • To manage and oversee seasonal staff including domestic assistants and a cook and to arrange a works rota as required, including evening shift work
  • To do laundry and ironing to a high standard
  • To put out rubbish and ensure bins are collected as necessary
  •  To run errands as required and driving as necessary
  •  To ensure guests are made welcome and to make their stay at comfortable and as enjoyable as possible
  •  To make yourself available to owners and guests during their stay
  •  To be the main point of contact for guests and to meet and greet as required
  • To shop as required and to ensure the Lodge is always adequately stocked
  • To wait at table and to work in the kitchen as part of an evening shift programme
  • To be responsible to getting the chimneys swept each year, to arrange for the boiler to be serviced, to arrange annual PAT testing, to undertake regular legionella tests
  • To arrange for the annual gas test to be done for the cookers at Syre Lodge and Dalvina
  • To arrange for relevant appliances and alarms systems to be regularly serviced as required
  • To liaise with contractors as an when required
  • To ensure the Lodge and other Estate properties are managed appropriately out of season, particularly during the winter months and to regularly check them
  • To ensure the lodge is maintained to a high standard and to oversee any agreed maintenance works
  • To oversee the security of Syre Lodge and other estate properties
  • To manage and oversee the other Estate properties to ensure they are also well maintained and remain in a clean and tidy condition. This includes overseeing Dalvina Lodge (which is cleaned by a separate cleaning company)
  • To work closely with the Estate Owners and their Factor as required
  • To act as an good ambassador for the Estate and to ensure that good and respectful relations continue to be maintained with the local community  
  • To ensure all Estate working policies are adhered to and are implemented
  • Plus anything else that is reasonably required!
  • You will be encouraged to take your holidays outside the fishing season.

Requirements

 

Ghillie required attributes:

 

  • You will be an experienced Ghillie and some stalking experience would be an advantage
  • You will be an excellent people person and a good communicator
  • You will be approachable, presentable and you will have a positive outlook
  • You will be 100% focused on the job in hand and you will be prepared to go the extra mile when required including working extras hours as necessary
  • You will enjoy working alone and as part of a team

 

You will be required:

 

  • To possess a valid UK driving licence
  • To possess an valid UK firearms and shotgun certificate
  • To have a good level of fitness and an aptitude for working in difficult terrain and in challenging weather conditions
  • Experience and appropriate training in driving all-terrain vehicles
  • Appropriate DMQ qualifications would be an advantage

 

Housekeeper required attributes:

 

  • You will be an experienced Housekeeper with a with a good eye for detail
  • You will be an excellent people person and a good communicator
  • You will possess good administrative skills
  • You will be approachable, presentable and you will have a positive outlook
  • You will be 100% focused on the job in hand and you will be prepared to go the extra mile when required including working extras hours as necessary
  • You will enjoy working alone and as part of a team

 

You will be required:

 

  • To possess a valid UK driving licence
  • Flexible in the hours you work which will including working weekends and doing some evening shifts during the season. Change over day during the season is a Sunday.
  • You will be required to work your hours across six days a week during the season, sometimes working long hours. You will work fewer hours out of season, over the winter months.
