Graduate Mechanical Design Engineer

Envision based in Thurso, provides dynamic, innovative product and engineering design services to clients in many industrial sectors from Nuclear, Oil & Gas, Hydro, Renewables to National Utilities.

We have an exciting 24-month placement for a Graduate Mechanical Design Engineer. Based at our office in Thurso the job holder will work alongside our team of engineers and designers producing innovative product and engineering design services to clients in the Nuclear, Hydro Electric & Renewable’s sectors.

Placement Start Date: 1st September 2025

Closing date: 31st July 2025
 

Typical Tasks;
• Carrying out Accurate Site Surveys with Laser Scanning Equipment
• Carrying out Technical Assessments/Calculations/FEA
• Producing Project Documentation
• Producing 3D Models using Autodesk Inventor
• Preparing general assembly drawings for client approval
• Fabrication & sub assembly drawings
• Site Installation Drawings
• Attending design meetings to accurately interpret client requirements
• Respond to technical queries from clients, suppliers, workshop fabricators & site installation teams

Skills
Essential:

  • Candidate must be based or willing to relocate to Caithness/North Sutherland area.
  • Graduate must have qualified in the last 5 years at minimum bachelor level.
  • Understanding of Mechanical Engineering Principles
  • Good technical skills and experience
  • Ability to undertake of report writing
  • Ability to prioritize and organise workload
  • Work well within a team and under own initiative
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Commitment to project completion

Desirable:

  • Experience in Autodesk inventor
  • Experience in Finite Element Analysis
  • Ability to understand engineering drawings
  • Understanding of fabrication techniques/processes

Qualifications
Minimum BSc , preferably related to Mechanical Engineering. Other subjects accepted provided the candidate has the required skills.

The graduate placement may result in permanent employment should the candidate meet Envisions needs, be a good fit with the core team and would like to develop his or her career in this field.

Envision will also provide
• In house training/mentoring by experienced personnel with external training offered where required.
• Chance to visit various sites from Nuclear facilities to Hydro Sites
