Job Description

Caithness Voluntary Group have a vacancy for a John O’Groats Development Officer.

This role is part time at 22.5 hours per week. Salary of £26,000 pro-rata.

The role is supporting John O Groats Development Trust and other groups in John O’Groats and surrounding areas. This is a two year post funded by Stroupster Wind Farm Community Fund.

The Candidate

The ideal candidate will have experience of working in community development or community organisations and will understand the particular needs and complexities of a community trust with ambitious plans.

The candidate will be highly motivated, maintain high standards of integrity, be an excellent communicator with a creative outlook to problem solving.

Role

The JOG Development Officer will report to the coordinator and will maintain strong working relations with all stakeholders including the local community.

Working closely with the coordinator, the officer will ensure that key initiatives are delivered in a timely manner and will deliver projects in accordance with agreed work plans.

The officer is likely to be involved in building partnerships across the community and with external agencies, assisting in developing plans, community consultation, securing funding, asset transfer, completing planning applications, securing quotes and delivering projects on time and to budget.

Essential Skills

  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Have a strong understanding of the community needs of Caithness.
  • The ability to quickly connect and establish a good relationship with community groups.
  • Have a strong understanding of community led development.
  • Strong IT skills including, compiling and writing reports and strong presentation skills.
  • Be a team player and use your own initiative
  • Must have a clean drivers licence and access to a vehicle.

The post will involve attendance at meetings which may involve both evening and weekend work therefore a high degree of flexibility may be required in working hours.

Caithness Voluntary Group was established in 1989, we are funded by the Scottish Government to support the voluntary sector in Caithness. This means offering support and information covering a wide range of issues such as governance, funding, training, leases, contracts, employment, PVG, volunteering, office services.

We are also part of the Caithness Community Planning Partnership.

We deliver Caithness Rural Transport (the community rural transport service) and Befriending Caithness a service delivering befriending to vulnerable and isolated elderly people in Caithness.
