Police Constable AFO – The Civil Nuclear Constabulary, Dounreay, Caithness

Full Time, Salary DOE

JOB DESCRIPTION

The ambition of the Civil Nuclear Constabulary is “to be recognised nationally and internationally as the United Kingdom’s leading organisation for the provision of armed policing protective services”. We play a key role in the Strategic Armed Policing Reserve and have been deployed across the country as part of Operation Temperer in response to terrorist attacks.

Our role in protecting the nation’s security is unique, which is why being a CNC Police Officer is about so much more than traditional policing. You’ll become part of a highly trained, well-disciplined, and professional team working from our Operational Units as part of a team to provide 24/7 armed response; patrolling and protecting nuclear sites, facilities and materials, as well as patrolling in the local communities and working with local Home Office Police Forces.

Upon joining the CNC you’ll be enrolled onto our world-class 17-week comprehensive Authorised Firearms training programme; we give our officers everything they need to become some of the most highly trained firearms professionals in the country, so there’s no need for you to have any prior policing experience when joining us.

After your 2-year probationary period, you’ll be eligible to apply for a role in one of our specialist areas to enhance your policing skills further, such as Dog Handler, Special Branch, Firearms Instructor or Strategic Escort Group Officer.

As a CNC employee, you’ll not only receive a pay increase at the end of your probationary period, but you’ll also be entitled to our generous benefits package:

  •      22 days or 176 hours per year (excluding Public Holidays) annual leave
  •      Generous pension scheme (20.7% employer contribution)
  •      Enhanced family friendly and sickness policies
  •      Free parking at all sites
  •      Free gym at some sites
  •      Cycle to work scheme

Officers and Staff have the opportunity to join the national Blue Light Card scheme which offers discounts on a variety of products and services to those working in the emergency services, NHS and Armed Forces.

Following the completion of your initial foundation course there is an option to immediately transfer to Hunterston for a period of up to two years, to support this site prior to closure. At the end of the two-year period, you will transfer back to your agreed home site.  If you are interested in this option, it would provide you with the ability and financial support to relocate to another area within the country on a temporary basis.

Please only apply for one vacancy, at any given time.
