Range Warden – K MacRae and Sons LTD, Durness, Sutherland

An opportunity has arisen to join the team at Cape Wrath Range, Durness, Sutherland. As a Range Warden, you will be responsible for the maintenance and smooth running of a military training area.
This exciting opportunity will suit someone who enjoys the outdoors and is looking for a new challenge supporting our military. Occasional weekend working will be necessary.
This varied role will mainly operate outdoors on the range, with the following responsibilities:
- Setting up range for training – Flags, sentry positions.
- Housekeeping
- Preparing military ranges and training areas for use
- Planned Maintenance
- Preventative maintenance
- Grounds maintenance
- Equipment testing
- 4×4 driving
- Small boat operation
- ATV operation
- To ensure that the Training Estate Facilities adhere to safe systems of work
- Liaise with stakeholders, provide them with transport and assistance as requested
- Use both IT and paper-based systems to complete any relevant documentation.
Requirements
Useful skills
- Knowledge in H&S such as COSHH manual handling, risk assessment and safe systems of work
- Have experience as a range/training/military area user (desirable)
- Have a full driver’s license valid in the United Kingdom (essential), have specialist training, ATV, powerboats, VHF (desirable, but not essential)
- Ability to operate rural plant and machinery (desirable)
- Basic IT skills
- Willingness to undertake training to work in high-risk areas, e.g. Transporting dangerous loads
- Weapons ranges – have an understanding of danger areas.
- Training will be provided for the right candiate with skills gaps.
